Bowflex PR3000 Review

The Bowflex PR3000 is an exercise machine designed for use in the home. Made in the United States, the PR3000 was built to give your body a complete workout, and it doesn’t require any cable changes unlike other gym equipment. Furthermore, the unit was designed to provide different resistance levels.

Key Features of the Bowflex PR3000

The PR3000 has a lot of impressive features, not the least being the varying resistance levels ranging from 5 to 210 pounds, ideal for those looking for variety. In addition, you can do over fifty different kinds of strength workouts here including lat pull down, vertical bench press and more.

The PR3000 also has upholstered roller cushions for the leg curl and extension as well as triple function ankle cuff grips. As far as maximum user weight is concerned, the PR3000 can support up to 300 lbs. and it only needs 100 x 78 inches for a workout area.

Because of the way the Bowflex PR3000 home gym has been designed, you can do a lot of different exercises here such as the following:

  • Hip Flexion
  • Bench Press
  • Crossover High Rear Delt Rows
  • Standing Low Back Extension
  • Shoulder Rotator Cuff (internal)

Those are just some of the workouts you can do on the PR3000. Aside from the multiple workouts, the ankle cuffs / handgrip add flexibility and improve performance for any exercise, and the workout placard provide vivid and clear descriptions for reference while doing the routines.

The PR3000 also has a no-change cable pulley system for easy management, and the 210 lb. Power Rod resistance can be upgraded to 310 pounds when you’re ready. And if you’re into lat pull downs, the triple function hand grips will come in handy.

The unit was designed for home use and this is easy to see from the dimensions, 83 inches (211 cm) x 64 inches (163 cm) x 41 inches (104 cm) H x L x W. The workout area is also just right for homes at 100 x 78 inches (254 x 199 cm).

The PR3000 also has a 7 year warranty, while for the parts it is 60 days and the frame, one year. As pointed out earlier, the PR3000 is versatile enough so you can work out different parts like your lower body, shoulders, back, chest, arms and abs. While home gym equipment only have a limited feature set, the Bowflex PR3000 comes with all the features you need for doing leg curl and extension workouts and lat pull downs.

Aside from these features, the machine also makes use of Bowflex unique Power Rods that provide just the right amount of weight or resistance you need. The Power Rods are similar in function to free weights but it doesn’t come with the joint pain or inertia that you get with free weights. You can hook one or up to four of these Power Rods on the pulley system and start from 5 pounds up to a maximum of 210 pounds.

There are a lot of good features on the PR3000, and the following are some of them.

  • The Power Rods are made from high quality material that can withstand pressure and heavy use.
  • The Power Rods have been sheathed and tested several times to ensure its durability and quality.
  • The rods are flexible.
  • You can do a number of different exercises on the machine.
  • The machine makes it convenient to perform exercise routines on various muscle groups.
  • The pulley system doesn’t require cables.
  • The machine is designed for the average person who hasn’t spent too much time exercising or out of shape.
  • The machine is suitable even for those who don’t go to gyms on a regular basis.
  • Fine tuning the machine is easy.

But definitely one of the biggest draws here is the compact design, as it won’t take up too much space and won’t require you to move equipment in your home. Second, the no-cable feature really makes it easy to move from one exercise to another. Furthermore, with the PR3000 you don’t have to resort to moving a lot of weights while exercising.

The PR3000 is also quiet and the motion is smooth regardless of the exercise routine you perform. The assembly direction is also very clear and it’s easy to adjust the settings to suit different requirements. Also, the top pulleys swivel and a lot of attention went into its design.

The PR3000 is a very good machine, but it does have some shortcomings.

  • It doesn’t have a lat bar, though you can perform the pull downs using the hand grips.
  • Although the instructions are clear, it doesn’t go into as much detail as the other Bowflex manuals.
  • You can only perform leg lifts if you use the exercise attachment.

The unit also has the same limitation that other rod based gym equipment have, and that is after a while you’ll probably want to go for the 310 lb. upgrade.

Taking everything into consideration, the Bowflex PR3000 home gym is a very good gym equipment. It is not the cheapest home gym equipment, and it does have some limitations, but for the most part it delivers. The unit is usually delivered on time and if the instructions are followed, is easy to assemble and set up. As far as versatility goes, the PR3000 is right up there with the best.

If you’re a bodybuilder and want to get the maximum workout for your body, then the PR3000 is probably not for you as you’ll need something more powerful. However, if you are just trying to get in shape and don’t have the time or inclination to go to a gym, the PR3000 will be more than enough. It is a versatile exercise machine that will work out all the major muscle groups in your body without the strain that comes from using other equipment.
