Jaw reduction surgery is a procedure that can improve the balance and aesthetics of your face by reducing the size of the lower jaw and giving it a more aesthetically pleasing shape. It is a highly effective treatment that can help to dramatically reduce the size of the lower jaw and provide a more attractive profile.

For many people, the jaw is an area of the face that can be difficult to change with diet and exercise. The jaw can be disproportionately large, or the shape may be asymmetrical, or the chin can be too prominent. Jaw reduction surgery can help to balance the features of the face, resulting in a more attractive facial profile.

During jaw reduction surgery, an experienced surgeon will make incisions in the mouth and jawbone. In some cases, the incision may be made in the chin to remove a section of bone. This bone may then be reshaped or a bone graft may be used to reduce the size of the jaw. In addition, the muscles and ligaments around the jaw may be tightened in order to give the jaw a more aesthetically pleasing shape.

The surgery itself is relatively quick and straightforward, and recovery is typically up to seven days. The most common side effects are swelling, bruising and pain. In some cases, there may be some temporary numbness in the jaw or chin area. Your surgeon will discuss any risks of the procedure with you before undergoing jaw reduction surgery.

Jaw reduction surgery can help to improve the overall aesthetics of your face, giving you a more balanced, attractive profile. If you are considering this procedure, be sure to discuss it with a qualified surgeon. With the right surgeon, you can achieve a more aesthetically pleasing shape that will make you feel more confident about your appearance.

How is Jaw Reduction Surgery Done?

Jaw reduction surgery is a common procedure that helps to reshape the outer jawline, giving it a more streamlined and proportionate appearance. It is also known as “jaw shaving”, because it essentially removes excess bone and cartilage in the lower jaw to reshape the jawline into a more pleasing V-shape.

The surgery is usually performed in a hospital setting, under general anesthesia. Generally, the procedure begins with the patient lying down on the operating table and having the area around the jaw numbed with local anesthesia.

Then, the surgeon makes incisions along the jawline, either from in front of the ear or inside the mouth. Once the incisions have been made, the surgeon carefully removes excess bone and cartilage, shaping it into the desired V-shape.

The surgery is typically done under local or general anesthesia and may take up to 4 hours to complete. After the surgery, the patient may experience some degree of swelling, bruising, and pain. To minimize the discomfort, the doctor may prescribe anti-inflammatory and pain medications.

Recovery times vary from patient to patient and depend on the extent of the surgery and the patient’s overall health. Generally, complete recovery usually takes several weeks. During the recovery period, patients should get plenty of rest, eat a healthy diet, and take all medications as prescribed.

Jaw reduction surgery is a permanent procedure, and the results can last a lifetime. However, it is important to note that the surgery does not stop the aging process. It simply helps to create a more proportionate and attractive jawline. Therefore, it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle and practice good skincare to keep the results looking their best.
