One of the most common questions asked about cannabidiol (CBD) is whether there is enough scientific evidence behind the claims of health benefits. The assertion that CBD is not scientifically proven to help any conditions is not accurate because the Food and Drug Administration has recently approved Epidiolex, a CBD-based medication for seizure disorders associated with more rare and severe forms of epilepsy.

Is CBD a Schedule 1 drug?

Cannabidiol has seen overwhelming popularity in recent years because of its therapeutic and medicinal benefits. However, there is much confusion on the legality of CBD and whether it is a Schedule 1 drug. The two most well-known chemical compounds in a cannabis plant are cannabidiol and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). CBD is the non-intoxicating compound that has medicinal and therapeutic benefits while THC produces the intoxicating effects that make a person feel “high.”

According to the FDA, drugs under Schedule 1 are presumed to be the most dangerous because of their potential for abuse and no perceived health benefits. Drugs classified under Schedule 1 include heroin, methamphetamines, LSD, and cannabis. However, Epidiolex, a CBD-based product was approved because of its medical value.

Hemp-derived CBD is considered legal in most states that is why there are plenty of CBD-based products in the market in spite of Federal laws. Medical marijuana has been legalized as well as some CBD-based products containing more than 3% THC.

Researches on the efficacy of CBD

It is difficult to make researches on the medical benefits of cannabis considering that it is classified under Schedule 1. However, there are some universities that managed to research the cannabis plant. A study made by Columbia University revealed that CBD appeared to help in killing and weakening cancerous cells without affecting healthy and normal cells.

In 2018, the United Kingdom studied cannabis and showed the possible results of using CBD in the treatment of ulcerative colitis. In 2014, a study made by Italy suggested that CBD can inhibit the growth of cancerous cells in people suffering from colon cancer. In 2017, a study undertaken in Brazil revealed that people who took CBD were less anxious about public speaking.

Importance of reliable CBD information

Because there are lots of questions regarding CBD and THC particularly their benefits to health, it is important to read and research for reliable information. There are many articles online that mention CBD products and medical claims that are simply generalizations and hype. Read the results of studies undertaken in other countries regarding the benefits of CBD in addition to studies made by scientists in the United States. Choosing CBD products must be based on safety, quality, and transparency and whether they are from reputable sources and brands.

For best results, CBD roll-on sticks come from organic hemp grown by farmers who do not use chemical fertilizers. Chemicals can destroy the efficacy of CBD and the product will not provide the results desired. Top brands always publish the results from third-party laboratories to prove that the CBD product they are selling are authentic without any unpleasant side effects.
