Tooth sensitivity is a problem in which you sometimes feel intense pain while eating ice cream, cold water, or anything warm. This discomfort is abnormal, and you must consult an expert dentist to understand the reason for sensitivity. Your dentist must have a proper solution, so consult them in New Smyrna Beach.

If you are unaware of sensitivity and how to deal with it effectively, you are at the right place. In this article, we will discuss how to eliminate tooth sensitivity. You can also consult specialist doctors like a family dentist in New Smyrna Beach, FL, where you can find all the solutions to your problems.

What Causes Tooth Sensitivity?

Tooth sensitivity is discomfort when you eat or drink something hot or cold or sweet. There are cases in which some people feel this pain even while breathing cold air. This condition is known as hypersensitivity or root sensitivity. Various reasons can cause tooth sensitivity issues in a person, and some of the reasons are as follows:

  • Acidic food: If you are consuming more acidic food, it can cause severe sensitivity in your teeth. Such food products include citrus fruits, yogurt, wine, or other such drinks and food products. It is therefore advised that people should consume less acidic food in their diet so that there is a neutralizing effect on their high-acidic foods. It is also recommended that while drinking any cold beverages, you must use a straw to reduce the contact of drinks with your teeth.
  • Brushing too hard: Doctors always recommend brushing slowly and using soft bristled brushes to provide relief to your teeth. Stiff bristles can lead to abrasion and erode the enamel of your tooth. Therefore, a soft toothbrush must be combined with desensitizing toothpaste to fight tooth sensitivity. It is also recommended to be quiet while brushing; don’t rub it heavily, as it can wear down your enamel.
  • Constant teeth grinding: Teeth grinding is also known as a bruxism situation in which people unknowingly clench their teeth, causing various dental issues. Clenching and grinding the teeth puts more pressure on the teeth to create wear and cracks. When such situations occur, dentin becomes exposed, making your teeth sensitive to hot and cold temperatures.

How to Protect Yourself from Tooth Sensitivity?

  • You must try to consume low-acidic food in your diet.
  • Switch the way you brush, and also avoid using hard-bristled brushes.
  • In the next step, if you face problems after the precautions, you should consult a doctor and go for an x-ray to enjoy your cold and soft drinks.
